Is Your Business Ready for the 2027 Copper Network Switch-Off?

Wayne Lee
Head Of Networks

The UK's legacy copper network is being withdrawn by Openreach, with affected services due to be switched off by 31 January 2027.

While many organisations have already begun planning their migration, others may not realise they are still using services that rely on copper infrastructure.

What Does This Mean?

If your business uses legacy broadband (FTTC or ADSL) or telephony services (PSTN/ISDN), you may need to migrate to a modern alternative before the deadline.

Potential replacement options include:

  • Full Fibre (FTTP)
  • SoGEA (Replacement for FTTC)
  • SoTAP  (Replacement for ADSL)
  • Hosted VoIP
  • Leased Lines
  • Network and hardware upgrades

How Do You Know If You're Affected?

Many organisations aren't completely sure which services they currently have in place.

You may be affected if:

  • Your connectivity has not been reviewed for several years
  • You operate multiple sites or branch locations
  • You rely on legacy broadband or phone services
  • You're unsure how your voice or internet services are delivered

Why Act Now?

Although the deadline is January 2027, early planning gives you more time to:

  • Understand your options
  • Avoid last-minute disruption
  • Improve performance and resilience
  • Plan migration around your business
